Thursday Jazz: Herbie Hancock

Words by Greg Molitor (ReMIND Photography)

Man-Child

Released on August 22nd, 1975, Man-Child is the seventeenth album from Jazz pianist Herbie Hancock. The album was his last featuring Hancock’s key contributors, The Headhunters, with which Hancock toured and recorded with the previous three years, and while the Man-Child relies less on improvisation than his previous records, it is drenched in concrete polyrhythms and melodic themes that’ll have any listener shakin’ his or her booty for days! Check out this video of Mr. Hancock throwin’ down “Hang Up Your Hang Ups” with some friends in 1979... let’s get funky!
