Jam Band Spotlight: Greensky Bluegrass

Words By Greg Molitor (ReMIND Photography)

As the finest jam-grass outfit in the Midwest, Kalamazoo’s Greensky Bluegrass makes it happen. Deconstructing the typical bluegrass sound, bending genres at every turn, offering both soulful originals well-crafted covers...this band is as legitimate as they come in the world of jam music. Even still, perhaps the most intriguing element to Greensky Bluegrass’s approach is its unwavering confidence in taking chances onstage each night it performs. The group is simply not afraid, and the results can be downright explosive at times...

Linked below is a superb recording from July 17th, 2009. The performance and the recording are nearly flawless and represent the unique direction the band takes when offering its incredible music. Check out Greensky Bluegrass this spring and summer as they once again take the nation by storm throughout the upcoming months. For those who are attending festivals, the talented five-piece will be performing at major events such as Summer Camp, Bonnaroo, Hangout, Hoxeyville, Electric Forest, All Good, Northwest String Summit and Yarmony Grass as well as opening Bell’s Brewery’s beer garden for two nights with special guest Great American Taxi booked for night one. Greensky also has plenty of shows booked between festival appearances, so make sure you visit its website for a complete listing of tour dates. Until next week, enjoy!!!
