Saturday Dead: 2.9.73

Words By J-man

Today's pick comes in the form of a high quality recording from Palo Alto, CA 1973. Highlights of the first set include "Deal," "Me & My Uncle," "Sugaree," "Mexicali Blues," "Brown Eyed Women," "El Paso" and "Playing in The Band." It was a subdued set that meandered along through some great tunes, but with limited energy or take off. The second set kicks off with some Wavy Gravy banter that beautifully reflects the times before going from an amazing "China Cat Sunflower" into "I Know You Rider." Other highlights include "Jack Straw," "They Love Each Other," "Truckin" into "Eyes of The World," "Ramble on Rose," "Wave That Flag," "Sugar Magnolia," "Uncle John's Band," closing the show with "Casey Jones."
