Saturday Dead: New Haven 1979

New Haven Coliseum
New Haven, CT

Words By J-man

This recording begins with an interesting, nightmarish announcement that triggers clear anger and discontent from the crowd. Jerry Garcia was sick and the band would not be able to perform that evening. Fast forward a month and a half later and we find ourselves at the New Haven Coliseum for the rescheduled performance. The first set features stellar versions of "Shakedown Street" and "I need a Miracle." This show is all about the second set. Each song went into the next through most of the set. Highlights include "Fire on The Mountain" into "Scarlet Begonias," "Estimated Prophet" into " Eyes of The World," "Not Fade Away" and "Casey Jones."
