Saturday Dead: Zimmer's Picks

Words & Pick By Andy Zimmer

This week we take you way back to the Greek Theater in the Fall of 1968. The show may be short in length, but this is made up for by the sheer intensity of the jamming. Phil is a monster of winding bass lines throughout the set and drives the relentless playing. Jerry has moments of brilliance as he intertwines his guitar lines through Phil’s wall of bass. And Pigpen’s vocals are as crisp and energized as I’ve heard them. The “Dark Star”>”St. Stephen”>”The Eleven” alone makes this show worth listening to, but do yourself a favor and check-out the entire performance.
