Saturday Dead: Zimmer's Picks

Words By Andy Zimmer

Everybody likes a good party to ring in the New Year, and the Grateful Dead was no exception. Over the course of their decades-long run, they staged some of the most off-the-wall, and memorable, New Years galas. In this week’s installment of my Dead picks, I’ve decided to pay tribute to the Dead’s New Years tradition. This show, from New Years 1982, is one for the ages; three sets of exceptional music. While the entire show is rock-solid, the gem is the third set. Etta James and the Tower of Power horns sit-in for the entire set and bring the house down.
