World Beat: The Rite of Strings

Words By Greg Molitor

Released in the summer of 1995, The Rite of Strings is the only recorded collaboration among Jazz Fusion virtuosi Al Di Meola (guitar), Stanley Clarke (bass), and Jean-Luc Ponty (violin). Although these artists are more famously known for their respective contributions in the amplified jazz world, The Rite of Strings showcases the three on acoustic instruments. Recorded in Hollywood at Studio 56, the album drew inspiration from their trip around the world previously that year. Check out some great videos of performances given by the trio featuring the music of The Rite of Strings below. With its vibrant mix of jazz and world themes, The Rite of Strings is a must-have for any serious fan of improvised music!
