Pan Astral (Members of Signal Path) 3.10.11

Pan Astral is a band comprised of Signal Path members Ryan Burnett (Guitar/Programming) and Damon Metzner (Drums), as well as Gabriel Ott (Bass). That evening in Denver would be the first hometown show for the trio. The Hi-Dive bar on Denver's South Broadway / hipster side of town would play host to the evening's event. The small bar was comfortably tuned-in to the small stage tucked into the front portion of the the other side of the establishment.

Pan Astral's vibe was interesting. Their music conjures up in almost electro / indie vibe. On the forefront of the stage Ryan alternated between an electric guitar, a lap steel guitar and a laptop. His range of tones were unique, yet a lot of his sound was lost in the small room. Gabriel stood to Ryan's right and in a physical, David Byrne-like fashion with an almost Thom Yorke style vocals, he drew my attention. His playing was average, but his contribution to the project was prominent.

At the back of the stage, Damon tore apart the drums. He was the most impressive member of the band. His rhythm and precision was eye-opening. Two separate people asked me "Who is that drummer?" during the show, resulting in them smiling and saying "I really like Signal Path..."

The crowd was a little low for a "hometown" show, but the folks in attendance were into it, many taking pictures and video. Damon told me prior to the show it was to begin at 11:00 P.M. When we showed up at 11:00 P.M., the show was already in-progress and finished somewhere close to midnight. I'm not sure how long the set was, but we only witnessed about a half hour to forty five minutes of music. What we saw, we enjoyed...
