The 23 String Band: Catch 23

Words By J-man

Coming off of a win at the RockyGrass band competition, The 23 String Band is releasing their second album, Catch 23. Their old-time vocals combined with their modern sounding instrumentation creates an interesting balance within' the music. The tracklist contains mainly original tunes with a few traditionals and a couple of covers originally by the likes of John Hartford and Tom Petty.

Though the album isn't overwhelmingly impressive, it has it's moments. The fiddle work is bright/prominent and the bands chemistry is clear. However, something about the ragtime/old time swing takes away from the full potential of The 23 String Band, leaving something to be desired.

Give the album a listen if you have the chance. But this is not a "run out and purchase" type of album...
